  • 01. My sewing machine doesn't work. What should I do?
    • Check if the plug is connected to the power outlet, 
    • Make sure that the "on/off" button is open, 
    • Make sure that the plug is properly plugged in, 
    • Check that is the power outlet is energized through a voltage tester.
  • 03. Can I lubricate my sewing machine by myself?
    • Always unplug the machine before lubricating, 
    • Lubricate the parts which are shown on the user's guide of your machine only, not any other parts.
    • Keep in mind that sewing machines should be lubricated based on use frequency. If you use your machine for once only, you should lubricate it once a year; if you use it more frequently, you should lubricate it semiannually. You should use lubricating oil by Singer, only. This is a special lubricating oil, and doesn't contain any hazardous sediment that may affect operation of sensitive parts.
SEWING
  • 03. How can I sew ornamental pattern picots?
    • In electronic machines, choose your pattern and sew. If you wish, you can change the setting.
    • Choose one of the ornamental pattern picots available on your machine settings,
    • Adjust the zigzag width,
    • Close the sewing length.
  • 05. How can I sew overcasting stitch?
    • Adjust your machine in zigzag stitch position,
    • Perform zigzag width and length arrangements,
    • Put the edge of the fabric, to be overcasted, under the presser foot halfly, and then start overcasting.
  • 06. How can I embroider in zigzag machine?
    • Choose the zigzag pattern in the machine for embroidery settings, 
    • Lower the machine gear downwards,
    • Perform zigzag width adjustments based on the pattern width to be embroidered, 
    • Follow the zigzag steps toward direction of the pattern without shaking the embroidery hoop.
  • 07. My machine is skipping stitches. What should I do?
    • Use the original Singer brand needles,
    • Use a needle suitable for thickness and type of your fabric,
    • For any flexible fabrics such as combed cotton and jersey, use a needle suitable for combed cotton,
    • For denim fabrics, use Singer's special-alloy denim needles,
    • Make sure that you have well inserted the needle, and that flat part of the needle is positioned towards the back.

  • 01. Why does my machine break needles?
    • Use a needle suitable for thickness of the fabric,
    • Do not use any other needles than original Singer brand needles,
    • Insert the needle properly, and make sure that it is fitted well,
    • Use an appropriate presser foot.
  • 02. What types of needles should I use by types of fabrics?
    • For combed cotton and jersey fabrics: Needles #2045 – 9, 11, 14 for jersey and combed cotton fabrics by thickness of the fabric,
    • For heavy fabrics such as denim:  Denim needles #2026 – 14,16,
    • For thin fabrics: Regular sewing needles #2020 – 9, 11,
    • For mid-weight fabrics: Use regular sewing needles #2020 – 14, 16 .
  • 03. What is twin needle? For which purposes and how is it used?
    • Twin needle: A twin needle is actually two needles joined on one shank that's inserted into the machine like a single needle. For which purposes is it used? It is used for sewing various ornaments, pintucks and sports items.
    • How is it used: 
    • Insert twin needle, 
    • Feed two threads to the machine, 
    • Pass the threads through two needle holes individually. 
    • If you sew an ornamental picot other than straight stitch, reduce the width of pattern by half. In any machines supporting automatic twin needle position, push the button for twin needle.
THREADS
  • 01. Why does my thread keep breaking?
    • Make sure that you have fed the thread to the machine properly,
    • Make sure that thread flows through the bobbin case smoothly,
    • Reduce tension of upper thread,
    • Check flow of thread through the bed,
    • Make sure that you have chosen the proper type of needle considering thickness of your thread, 
    • Check that whether any scratch is available around the needle insert of the gear plate .
  • 02. What types of threads can I use on my machine?
    • Prefer fabrics with less pile,
    • Make sure that edges of thread bobbin cases are not uneven,
    • Make sure that thread flows through the bobbin case smoothly and is not tangled by edges of the bobbin case. 
    • Besides threads, it is important to choose the right type of needle by the fabric type.
    • If you use the needle # 2045 (9-11-14) for jersey while sewing with metal threads such as purl, you can achieve better results.
  • 03. How can I arrange the ideal bobbin case - thread setting?
    • Insert the bobbin properly,
    • Thread the thread, flowing from the bobbin, first through the first slot (on the right), and then through the second slot (on the left) of the bobbin case, and pull the thread from the back,
    • If the thread is too tight, loosen the screw on the left of the bobbin case to the left; if the thread is too loose, pull the screw to the right.
  • 04. How can I arrange the ideal bobbin setting?
    • For winding a bobbin, make sure that you have inserted the thread to the bobbin winder properly, 
    • Push the bobbin case to the hand wheel,
    • Push in indent on the hand wheel disc,
    • Care for not contaminating the bobbin rubber with oil.
  • 05. I cannot feed threads automatically. What should I do?
    • While feeding threads automatically, take the needle to the top-level position,
    • Pull the automatic threading mechanism downwards; cause a loop of thread to swing into the eye of the needle,
    • Pull the automatic threading mechanism upwards slowly,
    • Release the thread, which has been threaded to the loop, slowly.
  • 06. My machine loops/bunches threads. What should I do?
    • While threading, make sure that the thread passes through the thread guides and tension drums, 
    • Increase tension of the thread, flowing from the upper bobbin case, gradually,
    • In each time you increase, check your stitches,
    • Remove thread piles accumulated on the areas of passage of the threads.
SERGERS
  • 04. Tips for using sergers:
    • While sewing, keep the fabric tight and straight.
    • While working with 3 threads on the serger, always remove the idle needle.
